The Australian Embassy in Kabul operates from a number of locations that are not publicly disclosed due to security reasons. 

Visa and Citizenship

The Australian Embassy in Kabul has no visa function.  The Australian Visas and Citizenship Section at the Australian Consulate-General in Dubai processes applications for permanent migration and citizenship by descent lodged by Afghan nationals resident in Afghanistan.  More visa information and contact details of the Australian Consulate-General in Dubai, see www.uae.embassy.gov.au/abud/Visas.html.

Biometrics are collected from applicants applying in Afghanistan. Applicants need to attend an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in person to provide their biometrics.  As there are no AVAC facilities within Afghanistan, clients applying in Afghanistan will need to make arrangements to travel to another location in order to provide biometrics.

Two possible options for clients in Afghanistan to consider as locations where they can provide biometrics are the AVACs located in Pakistan (for further information see http://www.vfsglobal.com/Australia/Pakistan/) or the United Arab Emirates (for further information see http://www.vfsglobal.com/Australia/GCC/).

If they do not wish to choose either of these two options, Afghan clients are able to provide their biometrics at any other AVAC which offers biometrics collection services.  As not all AVACs provide biometrics collection services, it is important to confirm with the preferred AVAC location that the service is available there before making travel arrangements.  In particular, clients should note that biometrics collection services are not available at AVACs in India.

Passports

The Australian Passport Office has introduced a new portal for clients to complete their passport applications online ( https://www.passports.gov.au ). This will require clients to first register for an account before completing the passport application.

 

If clients face any issues when completing the passport application or during the account registration process, clients should contact Kbul.passports@dfat.gov.au.
